Professional Reviews

95 James Suckling

"This wine is youthful, deep, complex and concentrated, with a full body rounded by dusty, creamy tannins. Aromas of black cherries, berries, minerals, paprika and fine spices with just a touch of quince. Long and tightly wound, but powdery at the end. This new cuvee from Los Vascos is a microselection from eight plots of the Caneten Valley. One can see the quality, potential and ambition."

97 Descorchados

"Around 2013, Los Vascos began planting the first of the current 60 hectares in the La Agüina area, on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera de la Costa at the foot of Cañetén, the highest point of that coastal range in the Colchagua Valley. The region has a strong influence on this small terroir, with the shadow of the hill modifying the climate and the cool winds from the sea, 40 kilometers away, sending fresh breezes. In this mesoclimate, Los Vascos decided to produce their first red blend, their top wine to date, surpassing Le Dix. This Cañetén is a selection of eight plots consisting of 57% Syrah, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the remainder Cabernet Franc. The result speaks to how times have changed in South American wine. The most ambitious wine from this traditional Colchagua winery isn't a brick, it's not a punch to the chin, but a delicious juice of ripe red fruits, notes of sweet spices, and chocolate amid a body that feels succulent yet fluid, with sweet, juicy tannins and gentle acidity; a red marked by fruit, with a long future in the bottle."
