Tasting Notes

Deep purple with violet tones and a concentrated, elegant aromatic range of dried figs, ripe red fruits, coffee, spice, and an inky nuance. The palate is structured yet rounded, with polished tannins, mature forest-fruit depth, and a long, age-worthy finish.

Food Paring

Pair with grilled lamb, beef tenderloin, or slow-braised short ribs to match the wine’s power and layered complexity. Decanting and serving alongside hard cheeses or mushroom-rich dishes will bring out the wine’s coffee-spice and dark-fruit resonance.

Professional Reviews

"Preludio has been produced since 1992 and is a selection of barrels from the best vineyards that the Deicas family has in Uruguay. The base comes from Juanicó, but there are also barrels from San José and Maldonado. It was aged for three years in barrels and then spent another three in the bottle, and it's a big, powerful wine with muscular tannins and a strong okay presence. But it's still a very young wine. Preludio was planned to be opened in 10 years, so you'll have to be patient."

Region Information

Juanicó is a wine‑producing area in southern Uruguay, located near Montevideo. The region benefits from maritime influence that helps moderate temperatures and preserve acidity. Juanicó wines often highlight Tannat and other varieties, offering structure, freshness, and a developing regional identity within Uruguayan wine production.

Uruguay is small in production but notable for its high-quality wines. Tannat is the country’s signature grape, producing structured and expressive reds. Maritime influence helps moderate climate conditions. Uruguayan wines are increasingly recognized internationally.
