Tasting Notes

Deep purple-black in color, this Monastrell opens with ripe currant, red berries, baked strawberry, blackberry, chocolate, smoked notes, spice, cedar, and juicy plum. The palate is rich, powerful, and full-bodied, with silky texture, fresh acidity, ripe fruit concentration, excellent length, and a long spicy finish with toasted French-oak notes.

Food Paring

Pair this powerful Jumilla Monastrell with paella, risotto, meat-lover’s pizza, grilled beef, lamb, pasta, or game dishes. Its dark fruit, supple tannins, and bright acidity make it a bold but versatile choice for rich, savory meals.

Professional Reviews

93 Robert Parker Wine Advocate

"The 2023 Silver Label is a ripe and balanced Monastrell with integrated oak. It matured in new and second-use French oak barrels for one year, but they were looking for lower toast and less impact of the wood in this wine versus earlier vintages, when it was 100% new oak. It has a fruit-driven nose with some spicy notes, a medium- to full-bodied palate and less alcohol than last year, 14.5%, with a tender mouthfeel."

"The 2023 Monastrell Silver Label hails from Jumilla and delivers bitter orange, herbs, mint and white pepper. It is dry, with a slightly plush, concentrated texture and closes with a satisfying finish."

Region Information

Jumilla is a southeastern Spanish wine region known for bold, expressive red wines primarily made from Monastrell. The region’s dry climate, high elevation, and limestone soils contribute to low yields and intensely flavored grapes. Wines from Jumilla often display ripe dark fruit, spice, and robust structure, offering a distinctive style rooted in warm‑climate viticulture.

Spain has the largest vineyard area in the world and a winemaking history that spans thousands of years. It is known for regions such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat, which produce distinctive red wines. Spain is also famous for fortified wines like Sherry and sparkling Cava. Modern investments and techniques have elevated quality while preserving regional identity.
