Tasting Notes

Aromas lean toward undergrowth, blood orange, dried flowers, and Mediterranean herbs, with a dry, fairly rich mouthfeel. Garnatxa softens Sumoll’s rustic edge, wrapping tannins in a glycerol texture and finishing with savory depth.

Food Paring

Pair with herb-roasted chicken or grilled lamb skewers to match the wine’s earthy-herbal character. Mediterranean vegetable dishes—ratatouille or roasted peppers with olive oil—also complement the blood-orange and dried-flower notes.

Professional Reviews

90 Wine Advocate

"The red 2022 Garnatxa - Sumoll was produced with a 50/50 blend of both grapes purchased from local growers. It has 12.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.39 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, where it matured for nine months. It's primary, fruit-driven, aromatic, peachy, clean and expressive. The idea is to learn to make Sumoll and, in the long run, produce only Sumoll, not blend it with Garnacha."

Region Information

Penedès is a prominent Spanish wine region located in Catalonia, best known as the heart of Cava production. The region’s varied elevations and Mediterranean climate allow for the production of both sparkling and still wines. Penedès wines feature native grapes like Xarel‑lo alongside international varieties, offering freshness, versatility, and regional identity.

Spain has the largest vineyard area in the world and a winemaking history that spans thousands of years. It is known for regions such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat, which produce distinctive red wines. Spain is also famous for fortified wines like Sherry and sparkling Cava. Modern investments and techniques have elevated quality while preserving regional identity.
