Tasting Notes

Pintia 2020 opens with blackberries, mulberry, roasted black plum, graphite, cocoa powder, dark olives, rooibos tea, fennel seed, vanilla, espresso, licorice, and mineral tones. The palate is opulent, juicy, round, fleshy, fresh, and elegant, with sculpted chalky tannins, black fruit, cocoa, fennel, roasted dried fruit, and a long spicy earthy finish.

Food Paring

Pair this powerful Toro red with grilled lamb, ribeye, roast pork, game, or aged sheep cheese to complement its concentration and chalky tannin structure. Its dark fruit, cocoa, licorice, fennel, and smoky mineral notes also make it a polished choice for braised short ribs, barbecue, and hearty Spanish-inspired dishes.

Professional Reviews

95 James Suckling

:Another combination of freshness and profoundness from Toro. Blackberries, graphite, ashtray, sandalwood, cocoa powder and dark olives on the nose. Fresh-veined, chalky tannins tighten the palate, with a nervy backbone. The tannins extend to a lengthy finish. Ripe but fresh."

94 Decanter

"Another accomplished vintage of Vega Sicilia's Toro project. Technical director Gonzalo Iturriaga says it was a challenging vintage, with elusive freshness. But ideal harvest timing and maceration management allowed him to deliver a balanced wine, with superbly integrated alcohol. Intense, expressive aromas of dark chocolate, dried black olive, prune and liquorice root mingle with Assam tea (for an elegant smoky allure) and crunchy blueberries. A pleasant rusticity, lined with dried sage, defines the grippy, savoury tannins. Long finish, spicy and earthy."

93 Wine Spectator

"A graceful red, with lovely purity to the core of mulberry and roasted black plum fruit. Shows flattering notes of rooibos tea, fennel seed, vanilla, espresso and mineral. Defined by sculpted tannins, this is enmeshed in a silky texture, while lightly mouthwatering acidity carries the detailed profile on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2040. 20,354 cases made, 1,519 cases imported."

Region Information

Toro is a Spanish wine region known for bold, powerful red wines made primarily from Tinta de Toro, a local form of Tempranillo. Hot summers, low rainfall, and old‑vine vineyards contribute to concentrated wines with firm tannins and dark fruit flavors. Toro wines are valued for intensity, structure, and aging potential.

Spain has the largest vineyard area in the world and a winemaking history that spans thousands of years. It is known for regions such as Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat, which produce distinctive red wines. Spain is also famous for fortified wines like Sherry and sparkling Cava. Modern investments and techniques have elevated quality while preserving regional identity.
